MOYESH at 24th Association African Insect Scientists (AAIS) Science Conference in Addis Ababa

MOYESH youth partners showcase their products at the 24th AAIS science conference

The 24th African Association of Insect Scientists (AAIS) Scientific Conference themed “Migratory Pests and Invasive Species: Early Warning System, Monitoring, Control and their Impact on Food Security, Environment and Livelihoods during COVID-19 pandemic” was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 21 to 25 March 2022. The event, organized by the Executive Committee of the AAIS and the Entomological Society of Ethiopia (ESE), the Addis Ababa University (AAU) and the African Union Commission, brought together about 300 scientists and development practitioners from outside and within Ethiopia.

The icipe Ethiopia Office through the MOYESH Programme participated in the event staged at the Addis Ababa University, Science Faculty conference center. icipe scholars delivered the keynote addresses, presented on different research topics and scientific posters. It offered a good opportunity to experience sharing in latest developments in insect science research and development.

Aside from the meetings, commercial insect products were exhibited by the programme youth partners and private sector partners. Four model youth enterprises and Bere Sericulture PLC have exhibited packed table honey and silk products. The showcased commercial products and publicity materials (posters, banners, case stories and extension manuals) attracted many visitors and guests of honour. The exhibition was accompanied by Business-to-Business (B2B) discussions that allowed youth partners to establish networks, exchange knowledge and experiences with the visitors on how to enhance production and productivity, collaborate within the value chain and promote market linkages.
