icipe organized Honey Processors and Exporters Engagement Workshop
The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation organized a Honey Processors and Exporters Engagement workshop on 24 July 2023 at Hyatt Regency in Addis Ababa. The theme of this workshop was “LISTENING TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR”, which aimed at sharing the lessons learnt in the implementation of the More Young Entrepreneurs in Silk and Honey (MOYESH) Programme. Through this workshop, over 40 participants had the opportunity to engage in public-private dialogues spotlighting the crucial roles of the private sector, especially those of honey processors and exporters, in transforming the apiculture sector of the country. To this end, the workshop focused on the following areas to catalyze private sector active engagement towards market-related solutions for the beehive products.
The workshop focus areas include:
- Exchanging views on ways to strengthen honey processors and exporters engaged in the apiculture market systems.
- Supporting the sectoral associations in achieving their stated goals.
- Identifying joint priorities, opportunities, and system-level barriers, and
- Jointly develop an action plan on the agreed course of action.
Youth partners supported by the MOYESH participated from Amhara, Oromia and Southern Nations; Nationalities and Peoples’ (SNNP) regions also participated and showcased a high-quality packaged table honey during the event covered by several media outlets (see the links below).
